About Dr. Cyril Senyo Kpodo

Dr. Cyril Senyo Kpodo is a sculptor and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Art Education at the University of Education, Winneba, where he has taught since 2009. He holds a PhD in Sculpture (KNUST, 2022), a Master of Fine Art (2005), a First Class Honours BA in Art (1997) and a Diploma in Rural Art and Industry with distinction (1992), all from KNUST. At UEW he teaches Portraiture in Sculpture, Carving, Studio Research in Sculpture and Drawing, among other courses, and supervises long essays and projects. He served as Acting Head of the Department of Art Education in 2022 and as Faculty Examinations Officer for the School of Creative Arts, and has been National Moderator for Sculpture and Drawing (NABTEX) since 2012 and an International Moderator for WAEC (Leatherwork and Basketry) since 2011. His studio practice centres on modelling and casting in clay, resin and fibreglass, finished with bronze paint and a textured surface, and on assemblage and construction in wood and found materials. Commissions include portrait busts and heroic-sized statues — among them Nana Kome, the Tetteh Quarshie monument and the portrait of Dr. Ephraim Amu — alongside studio research such as his doctoral project, Masks Unmasked. His work has been exhibited in Ghana and Nigeria, and in “Go Go Ghana!” (Imago Mundi, Luciano Benetton Collection, 2014).
