About Dr. Theophilus Kwesi Mensah

Dr. Theophilus Kwesi Mensah is a sculptor, painter and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Art Education at the University of Education, Winneba, where he has taught for more than twenty years. He holds a PhD in Art and Culture (UEW, 2018), a Master of Fine Art (KNUST, 2009) and a BA in Art Education with a double-subject art credential (UEW, 2006). At UEW he teaches Basic Design, Drawing, Figure Painting, Composition and Picture Making, and Curriculum Planning and Development in Art Education. He has headed the Painting and Drawing units and the Painting and Graphics units, served as Academic Counsellor for Level 300, and is now Graduate Coordinator. He is also a GTEC assessor for programme re-accreditation and an external verifier for NABPTEX. His studio work centres on public sculpture: monuments in resin and fibreglass finished with metal patina, concrete statues, portrait busts and church furnishings, made through close work with clients, architects and community stakeholders. His themes are drawn from nature, history and human experience, and from the interplay between form and space. He took part in the documenta fifteen residency in Berlin, in the exhibition Water Bodies: Narratives of the Anthropocene, and has published books on pyrography, composition and marquetry.
In every aspect of one’s life, whatever that you are doing, do it to the best of your ability. "Dot the I’s and Cross the T’s in anything that you do"
